Ghatigaon Bustard Sanctuary

Located near Gwalior in Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh Ghatigaon sanctuary is also known as Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary. It was established with primary aim to save Great Indian Bustard which breeds here between March and September months. Ghatigaon sanctuary is one of the last places where the majestic bird - Great Indian Bustards can be seen. Karera wildlife sanctuary, Shivpuri located nearby was also established for same purpose. It has some beautiful water bodies which play as host to birds and other wild animals and is a must visit place for serious bird watchers.

PRINCIPAL FAUNA

The Great Indian Bustard, Black buck, Chital, Monkey, Wolf, Blue bull, Wild boar, Fox, Hyena etc. Many species of birds can be seen here and migratory birds flock in thousands in winters.

PRINCIPAL FLORA

Khair, Murjan, Palash, Seja, Dhawada, Royenja, Ghote, Beweg, Dhaman, Salai, Heans, Katli etc.

BEST SEASON:

November to March is best time to visit Ghatigaon Sanctuary.
